Rocket Lab to open new facility in Long Beach
14 Jan 2020  Rocket Lab has announced it will open a new facility which will serve as its Corporate Headquarters, provide incremental production capacity, and bring Mission Control Center capabilities to Long Beach, California.


ExactEarth, Hisdesat announce contract with EMSA
13 Jan 2020  exactEarth Ltd. and Hisdesat announce that in partnership they have been selected by the European Maritime Safety Agency ("EMSA") to provide satellite-AIS data services for a four-year period.
Iridium formally authorised to provide GMDSS service
13 Jan 2020  Iridium Communications Inc. announced that on 19 December 2019 a Letter of Compliance was signed by the International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO), stating it has positively verified the operational and technical requirements as requested by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for Iridium to provide Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) service.


First Ariane 5 launch of 2020 successful
16 Jan 2020  Rocket: Ariane 5 ECA; Payload: Eutelsat KONNECT, GSAT-30; Date: 16 January 2020, 2105 UTC; Launch site: Kourou, French Guiana. The two satellites were deployed into geostationary transfer orbit as planned.
KZ-1A launches commercial small broadband satellite
16 Jan 2020  Rocket: Kuaizhou-1A (KZ-1A); Payload: Yinhe-1 (GS-SparkSat-03); Date: 16 January 2020, 0302 UTC; Launch site: Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, China. The satellite, the first one of Beijing-based GalaxySpace, was sent into its planned orbit of 621 km x 637 km x 86.40 degrees.
Progress developing methane powered rocket, waiting for customer
16 Jan 2020  The launch of a Russian rocket powered by methane is expected to cost half as much as the lift-off of a Soyuz-2 carrier, Progress Space Rocket Center CEO Dmitry BaraNovember was quoted as saying.
Ariane 5 reaches launch zone
15 Jan 2020  Arianespace has delivered another Ariane 5 to the launch zone at Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana, positioning the vehicle for lift-off on 16 January with two satellite passengers on board: Eutelsat KONNECT and GSAT-30.
New Chinese commercial remote sensing satellite in orbit
15 Jan 2020  Rocket: Chang Zheng-2D; Payload: Jilin-1KF01 (Red Flag-1 H9), NewSat-7, NewSat-8 (aka NuSat-8 and 8), Tianqi-2-03; Date: 15 November 2020, 0253 UTC; Launch site: Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, China. The satellites were deployed into approx. 477 km x 491 km x 97,34 degrees Sun-synchronous orbit.


Euroconsult expects 'radical transformation' of satellite market
14 Jan 2020  In its latest analysis of satellite manufacturing and launch services, Satellites to be Built and Launched by 2028, Euroconsult projects that the satellite market will experience a radical transformation in the quantity, value and mass of the satellites to be built and launched with a four-fold increase in the number of satellites at a yearly average of 990 satellites to be launched, compared to a yearly average of 230 satellites in the previous decade.


ExoMars Rover completes environmental tests
16 Jan 2020  The Rosalind Franklin rover of the joint ESA-Roskosmos ExoMars mission completed a series of environmental tests at the end of 2019 at Airbus, Toulouse, France. This included final thermal and vacuum tests where the Rover is heated and cooled to simulate the temperatures of its journey through space and on the surface of Mars.
Launch of new Russian remote-sensing satellites planned in 2022
16 Jan 2020  The Progress Space Rocket Center plans to launch two Aist-2T Earth's remote-sensing satellites at the end of 2022, Progress CEO Dmitry BaraNovember was quoted as saying.
LockMart ships mobile communications satellite to launch site
16 Jan 2020  Lockheed Martin shipped its third satellite based on the modernised LM 2100 bus to French Guiana for launch aboard an Ariane V rocket. JCSAT-17 will provide flexible mobile communications services to users in Japan and the surrounding region. Arianespace will launch JCSAT-17 from its spaceport in Kourou.
Science instruments integrated with Landsat 9
15 Jan 2020  Landsat 9's two science instruments are now attached to the spacecraft, bringing the mission one step closer to launch. In late December, the Operational Land Imager 2 (OLI-2) and the Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 (TIRS-2) were both mechanically integrated on to the spacecraft bus at Northrop Grumman in Gilbert, Arizona.

OneWeb, SatixFy to launch digital technology pathway payload
13 Jan 2020  OneWeb and SatixFy UK announced plans to add a digital technology pathway payload that will include a full digital payload into OneWeb's launch schedule during 2021.
